About this event

Are you a psychedelic practitioner, guide or facilitator grappling with the complex interplay between narcissism and altered states of consciousness? Join us for a transformative workshop led by Daan Keiman, Nectara's Director of Programming, therapist and speaker on the topics of integrative, ethical and compassionate psychedelic care.

Daan's broad-minded, interdisciplinary approach draws from contemplative practices, systems thinking, somatic work, anthropology, cognitive science, philosophy, Buddhism, and existential therapy. With a deep commitment to understanding the principles of personal and cultural transformation, Daan will shed light on the nuanced relationship between narcissism and psychedelics.

In this talk, Daan will offer a brief introduction to clinical and subclinical definitions of narcissism and how it might show up in your work as a practitioner. In this, they introduce the concept of multiplicity and discuss the notion of the healing impulse from that perspective.

The talk then examines different aspects of the healing impulse that might drive the practitioner themselves to lead with narcissistic parts and needs that could unintentionally hurt or harm their client.

In this talk, you'll have the opportunity to explore:

  • The intersection of narcissism, ego dissolution and psychedelic states
  • Strategies for identifying and addressing narcissistic tendencies in psychedelic spaces
  • Techniques for fostering healthy self-awareness and ego integration
  • Ethical considerations in working with narcissistic clients or community members
  • Cultivating compassionate, systems-aware approaches to narcissism and transformation

Following the talk, there will be a brief Q&A session where you can ask questions, share challenges, and receive tailored guidance from Daan to address your specific needs and concerns around the topic.

Members of our Facilitator Circle will receive a recording with summary notes.

Note: Daan is not a clinician, so this talk should not be mistaken for clinical training and would be best approached as a facilitated community conversation about a significant challenge for the emerging field of psychedelic care.
